In recent years, Instagram has changed profoundly. From a simple app full of photos and filters, it has become a space where people work, build communities, and seek concrete results. In this scenario, the idea of a subscription no longer seems so far-fetched.

Meta is in fact testing Instagram Plus, a new paid plan designed to offer additional features to users. This is not a service for creators or businesses, but a package designed for those who use the social platform every day and want more control and advanced tools, especially for Stories.

At the moment it is still in the testing phase, but the initial information already allows us to understand which direction things are heading.

Instagram Plus features

The heart of Instagram Plus revolves around Stories, which become even more central to the user experience.

One of the most discussed new features is the ability to view Stories anonymously. In practice, you’ll be able to watch other people’s content without appearing among the viewers. A simple feature, but with a potentially huge impact on the way people interact.

Alongside this come more advanced analytics tools. Users will be able to see how many times a Story is rewatched and quickly search for specific names within the view list, without having to scroll manually.

Audience management is also changing. Instagram Plus would allow you to create multiple sharing lists, going beyond the current close friends limit. This means being able to publish different content for different groups much more precisely.

There are also new features related to visibility. Stories could last longer, up to 48 hours, and it would be possible to highlight one each week to push it to the forefront among your followers’ Stories.

Finally, on the interactions front, there are animated super likes, designed to make reactions more visible and distinctive compared to classic emojis.

How much does Instagram Plus cost

At the moment, Instagram Plus is still in the testing phase and is not available in Italy. Meta has not officially announced all the countries involved, but from user reports the service appears to be being tested in markets such as Mexico, Japan, and the Philippines.

The price is also not yet final and varies depending on the country. The figures that have emerged so far are quite low, generally between around €1 and €2 per month. An accessible threshold, which suggests the intention to make the subscription appealing to a very broad audience.

However, it remains to be seen whether this model will also be confirmed in the event of a global launch and whether the price will remain so low once the testing phase is over.

Is Instagram changing its model?

The introduction of Instagram Plus is not just a technical innovation, but part of a broader change. Social platforms are increasingly becoming hybrid platforms, halfway between entertainment, work, and business.

With this type of subscription, Meta is not simply selling new features, but access to greater control and visibility. In other words, we’re moving toward a system where the experience can be different depending on whether you pay or not.

For some users, especially those who use Instagram strategically, this could be an advantage. Having more data and more tools means being able to optimize content and better understand what works.

On the other hand, however, there is the risk of losing some of the spontaneity that made the social platform so popular. More tools also mean more competition, more construction, and less immediacy.

An open question therefore remains: will users be willing to pay for these features?

Much will depend on the perceived value. If these new features are seen as genuinely useful, Instagram Plus could find its place. Otherwise, it risks being perceived as yet another subscription in an already saturated landscape.
