Big news from Google: the Discover platform will soon be available on desktop too!

But first, what is Google Discover?

Google Discover is a feed of personalized content, such as news, articles, or videos, that Google suggests based on users’ interests and browsing habits, without them having to perform a search.
Until now, Discover only appeared in the Google app on smartphones and tablets, but a version designed for desktop browsing is now being tested in the United States.

The news was announced during the Search Central Live event in Madrid.

Google Discover on desktop

As you can see, the top section has remained unchanged, but scrolling further down, “Discover” and “At a Glance” will be visible (the latter is a widget for Android devices that shows at a glance the most useful information of the day, weather, Gmail messages, and more).

What Will Be the Impact for Publishers and Users?

For users, the arrival of Discover on desktop could mean even more immediate access to relevant content, without the need to actively search for it. A more seamless and personalized experience, directly from Google’s homepage.

For publishers, on the other hand, a new visibility opportunity opens up: being present on Discover will no longer mean just intercepting the mobile audience, but also reaching those who use the web from desktop, often for longer and more in-depth browsing sessions. One more reason to focus on quality content, well-structured and optimized according to SEO best practices!
