After several rumors in recent weeks, confirmation has finally arrived: a new service linked to WhatsApp called WhatsApp Plus is currently being tested.

The topic follows a discussion recently addressed with Instagram Plus, namely the idea of possible subscription services with extra features compared to the free apps.

In this case, however, it is still an experimental phase: the service is not officially available globally and involves only a limited number of users.

What is WhatsApp Plus and what are its features?

WhatsApp Plus is a subscription service that Meta is testing internally to enrich WhatsApp with additional tools.

The idea is not to change how the app is used, but to introduce possibilities mainly related to customization and user experience management.

Among the new features emerged from the tests is the ability to pin up to 20 chats at the top, compared to the current lower limit. A simple but useful change for those who manage many conversations every day.

The package also includes various customizations such as alternative themes and colors, different icons, dedicated ringtones, exclusive stickers, and advanced settings to modify the interface.

Everything is integrated directly into the WhatsApp settings and does not modify the app’s main functions like chats, calls, and groups, which remain unchanged from the current version.

WhatsApp Plus: how much does it cost?

According to information emerged from the test versions, the price could be around €2.49 per month for the European market.
However, this is not a final figure, but an initial estimate that could change before any official launch.

The model is nonetheless optional: those who do not want to subscribe can continue to use WhatsApp normally without any limitations.

What changes for users and businesses

For most users, at least for now, nothing changes.
WhatsApp remains completely free for messages, calls, and groups. The new subscription would simply add extra features for those who want a more personalized or advanced experience.
It is therefore an evolution towards a “freemium” model, where basic functions remain free while additional ones become optional and paid.

For businesses, this type of evolution could instead represent an interesting opportunity.
Features like the ability to manage more pinned chats, customization tools, or any advanced options could help improve communication organization and make the use of WhatsApp as a customer contact channel more efficient, which is increasingly central to daily activities.

A still experimental phase

It is important to highlight that WhatsApp Plus is still in the testing phase and has not been officially announced for global release.

Meta is evaluating user response and the effectiveness of the model before deciding whether to extend it to everyone. Consequently, some features could change, be removed, or not arrive at all in the final version.
